Cities

“City” is an urban area with a high population density and a particular administrative, legal, or historical status.

A big city, or metropolis, may have suburbs and regions; and are often associated with metropolitan areas, creating large numbers of business commuters. If a city sprawls far enough to reach another city, they form a conurbation or megalopolis.

Towns and cities have a long history, although opinions vary on whether any particular ancient settlement can be considered to be a city. Mesopotamia can claim the earliest cities, particularly Eridu, Uruk, and Ur.

It is not clear which is the most populated city in the world, and that “honor” is claimed by many cities, such as Shanghai, Mumbai, Tokyo and Mexico City.
